Seyad Bibi Rejects State Injustice and Begins Hunger Strike in Protest of Her Detention
Today, Seyad Bibi, a prominent human rights activist and member of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), began a hunger strike inside Turbat Central Jail in protest against her unlawful detention.
She has repeatedly faced harassment, including raids on her home and being taken to a police station overnight without an FIR or prior legal notice. Her name was placed on the Fourth Schedule, restricting her freedom of movement, access to banking services, and other basic rights. Despite these challenges, she has continued to speak out against injustice.
She is currently being detained under the 3MPO without having committed any crime. People from all walks of life must raise their voices against these unlawful actions by the state and demand her safe release.
For years, Seyad Bibi has endured repeated harassment, surveillance, and intimidation simply for peacefully raising her voice against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and other human rights violations in Balochistan. Her detention is yet another attempt to silence a peaceful activist whose only crime has been speaking up for her people.
But the state has failed. Seyad Bibi was not silenced outside prison, and she will not be silenced behind prison walls. Today, her hunger strike stands as a powerful act of resistance, sending a clear message that truth and justice cannot be imprisoned. Her voice continues to echo beyond the prison walls, reminding the world that silence in the face of injustice is never an option.
International human rights organizations must pay attention to the situation in Balochistan, investigate the human rights violations, and encourage accountability through appropriate legal and international mechanisms.
